(Fishing and ornamental pond) coccolith chalk powder - 100% natural water treatment product
- Fertigreen® Coccolith Chalk is a 100% natural mineral product whose main component is calcium carbonate with a soft structure. This calcium carbonate originates from fossilised marine organisms that settled on the seabed millions of years ago.
- Thanks to its exceptional microstructure, coccolith chalk stimulates strong biological activity. Its extremely fine structure ensures an even distribution throughout the pond.
- Fertigreen® Coccolith Chalk neutralises acidification and helps restore the pH of the pond bed, allowing aerobic bacteria (which require oxygen) to develop and break down the mud layer, i.e. organic sludge. In an oxygen-deficient pond bed, worms and other invertebrates cannot thrive, leaving bottom-feeding fish species such as bream and carp without a food source. The pond bed then becomes a kind of “underwater desert”. The thicker the sludge layer, the more toxic gases are produced through fermentation.

Fertigreen® Coccolith Chalk should be thoroughly mixed with the water and is best applied in spring, when the water is cool and rich in oxygen.
The best results are achieved in natural ponds and ponds with a natural bed.
Quantity
A restoration programme is best spread over 2 to 3 years:
- An initial treatment of 500 g per m² of water surface;
- Followed by a maintenance treatment of 250 to 300 g per m² of water surface.
As Coccolith Chalk remains active for several months, its beneficial effects will remain visible long after application. This treatment can reduce sludge formation by several centimetres each year.
Important remarks
For smaller garden ponds made of plastic liner, polyester or concrete, it is recommended to reduce the dosage to 50 g per m² of water surface.
